Ah Ong caught this beautiful 2.4kg Threadfin last night. Tide was just turning down with a good current flow. Ah Chun is the one who strike first when he saw the line gone loose. Ong took over when the fish come near to the jetty. I took a squid net to scoop it up when it surface. It was Ah Ong first threadfin at the jetty.
Hungry Night Queenie
Date: 26-05-2012 Time: 10.50pm Rod: Zzipplex M427 Hi-Flex 13ft. Reel: Daiwa Saltiga 50 Line: 50lbs mono Rig: Long snood bottom feeder Bait: Fresh night herring(Tuabak)
Queenfish very seldom feed at night....Ah ONG is the lucky one.....Tide was on the way up and the current was flowing very smooth...Bait was not very lasting but ONG keep on changing to make sure it has bait in the water all the time.
Hard work paid off....Around 10.50pm....POW....another angler there saw Ah ONG rod tip rattle.....Immediately he strike.....Yes...it ON. He then pass the rod back to ONG.....By looking at the rod bend....we know this fish has size....We were guessing it could be another Threadfin.....I standby my squid net. But when the fish surface....It turn out to be a Queenfish.....I quickly ask ONG to hold on the fish and I grab my gaff.
The fish was brought up easily....It hit the scale at 4kg.
Two in a night
Ah An caught his 1.6kg Barracuda around 10pm 30-06-2012 when the tide was midway down. The fish took his fresh squid bait on his Penn PPT sidewinder rod 13.6ft pair with a Shimano Torium 30 reel. I used my hand to grab hold of his line leader and haul it up the jetty.
Ah Hong caught his 3.1kg queenfish at around 1.30am 01-07-2012 when the downtide was about to end. The fish took his tamban bait on his Century vectra rod pair with a Shimano Trinidad DC 30 reel almost immediately after he casted down. For this fish, I use my gaff to bring it up.
Leong first Queenfish

Leong got his first queen fish in the night at the jetty. This 2kg plus fish took his tamban bait and causing his Daiwa Sealine lever drag reel to screech. I alert him and he strike. The fish swim inward and he easily surface it. I gaff it up.

Ah An caught this 2.8kg barracuda at 2.30am with his Penn PPT sidewinder pair with a Shimano Torium 30 reel. Bait use fresh squid on a long snood bottom rig. It didn't take much time for him to land. I gaff it up also.

Tide was coming up...current was fast but smooth. I was catching squid on the right side while Weemin were fishing on the left side.
Around 10pm...Weemin reel alarm sounded...I see Rudi(another angler there) rush to the rod pickup n strike...The penn slammer rod make a fully bend...WOW...that is big....
The fish never fight much...but instead stay threading in the water along with the current....Rudi make a few hard pump on the rod to lift it higher..
The fish move along with the current...by now it already on the mid part of the T junction...Wee min come along with his fixed gaff..but the fish still refuse to surface....He took over the rod...With fresh energy...he manage to pump it higher but on a very slow pace...
After awhile...the fish manage to surface up about 20 meter away...Wow...my first sight it was a big thick back ray...It then dive down again...pulling line out on a faster pace....Weemin tired out and Rudi had to takeover again....After sometime of tug of war...it surface second time now at the right corner....but very fast it sink down again....Then it was on a slow pace of winding back...with Rudi n Weemin changing hand on the rod another one or two time...
Finally it was Weemin who manage to surface it up....I take the opportunity to gaff it....Yes...first gaff in....It struggle a little...but my gaff was fully in control...I pull it nearer and Convert take Weemin gaff to gaff it...Two gaff in...but I want another gaff so that to spread out the weight when pulling up. Rudi come with a rope gaff but it was not sharp enough so it fail...I try to get another gaff while Convert n Rudi try to pull it up....haha..but both fail as it was too heavy for two of them...They call for help so I and Weemin went to help...
We manage to pull it up....Wow...a whopping papa ray...estimate around 50kg...It had swallow the hook deep inside...two barb was remove from it tail...
They try on two 40kg digital scale fail to weigh it...haha...I had to go to my mobile home to take a 50kg scale.
It hit 43kg on the scale....a new record for this year (2012) bedok jetty biggest...
Here is how heavy the fish is..he can't even able to lift it up

Red Snapper & a one way submarine
Date: 08-03-2013 Time: 8.50pm Rod; Penn Powergraph surf 12ft. Reel: Daiwa Saltist 40 Line: 30lbs mono Rig: Long snood bottom feeder Bait: Frozen Tamban
Tide was about to full.....Current is still running strong....We were talking about earlier my hard fought battle to a one way train. A huge stingray just manage to strip off my shimano torium 20 reel two hundreds meter of mono and braided line and break free. It just keep going with the help of the strong current without any turning back. I lost it after nearly half n hour of tight drag fighting. Below is the video showing ah boi trying to help and the fish keep running. I only able to pump when the fish stop briefly..Sound are affected by the strong wind that night.

Ah Boi went to change his bait....He feel the weight at the end of the line...but he thought tangle my line....so both of us wind back together..Then.....he feel some struggle.....end up a big red snapper below....I use my hand to grab hold of his leader and pull it up....2.5kg is the weight.....Very rare at jetty.
